ACA Subsidies Extended Through 2025 – What This Means for You

The price of everything – from gas to groceries to basic services – has gone up. While the Kansas City metro is insulated from the price increases seen on the coasts, the inflation pain here is real. Any relief will help.

For many individuals covered by an ACA health plan, that relief has come in the form of the Inflation Reduction Act, which extends ACA premium subsidies first granted through the American Rescue Plan (ARP).

What this means for you

If you currently receive a subsidy (aka tax credit) on an ACA health plan you purchased through the Marketplace, that support will extend through 20251, and your premium payments will continue to be capped at 8.5% of your income.

The act also expands subsidies to middle-income people and families who may have been previously priced out of coverage.

The details

  • Subsidies apply to everyone who qualifies and only for ACA plans purchased on the Marketplace.
  • The American Rescue Plan (ARP) provided enhanced ACA premium subsidies by removing the income cap, which limited subsidies to households with income from 100% to 400% of the federal poverty line.
  • ARP subsidies were slated to last through 2022 but now extend through 2025.
  • The extension of the subsidies will protect nearly 13 million Americans from health plan cost increases.
